6 Days – Umbwe Route via Stella

Ascend from the forest zone to the heath zone on the second day, encountering steep sections. Taking it easy is vital for acclimatization. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route before arriving at Barranco camp in the afternoon. Take time to relax and marvel at the views of the Barranco wall and Western breach. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp (full board).

From Barranco camp, renowned for its giant groundsels, you ascend the Barranco wall and traverse glacial valleys to Karanga camp. Today's hike is relatively short, with lunch at Karanga camp. In the afternoon, go on a guided walk for stunning views of Kibo's Southern walls and deep glacial valleys. Overnight at Karanga Camp (full board).

Ascend to Barafu camp, another half day of hiking. Enjoy lunch in camp, allowing ample time to relax before the summit bid. Despite the desolate alpine desert and occasional strong winds, splendid views of Mawenzi Peak await in the evening. Enjoy an early dinner before resting for the night. Overnight at Barafu Camp (full board).

Embark on the final summit bid just before midnight. Patience and persistence are key as you ascend toward the summit. By dawn, most climbers arrive near the rim as the first rays of light illuminate the horizon. Ascending via Stella Point provides a relatively short final section to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. Descend to Mweka camp, your goal for the day. Overnight at Mweka Camp (full board).

Descend approximately 4,500 ft to Mweka Gate, where a delicious lunch awaits, prepared by your team. Bid farewell to your mountain staff before heading to the hotel near Arusha for a farewell dinner and overnight stay or day room, depending on your departure plans.
