8 Days – Northern Circuit Route

Ascending from the forested slopes of Lemosho, you traverse through Podocarpus and Juniper forests, emerging from the forest into the heath zone and onto the Shira Plateau. Lunch is served along the trail, and you arrive at camp by mid-afternoon. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp (full board).

Following a relatively lengthy hike and significant gain in altitude, today entails a shorter journey, arriving at Moir camp in time for lunch. This is a good day for acclimatization with the option of an afternoon walk guided by your team. Overnight at Moir Camp (full board).

Diverging from the traditional western routes, today's path heads north and then east around the Kibo Massif. Here, encounters with other groups are relatively few. Trekking through the alpine desert along the heath zone's edge, lunch is served midway to Pofu camp. Overnight at Pofu camp (full board).

From Pofu, a ridge hike leads you around the Kibo massif to third cave camp, skirting the heath zone's edge. Upon arrival, there's time to rest and embark on a short acclimatization walk in the late afternoon.

Continuing around the north and eastern flanks of Kibo from Third cave camp, you arrive at School Hut, preparing your gear for the summit bid. After an early dinner, retire for some rest. Dinner and overnight at School Hut (full board).

Commencing early, typically before midnight, you begin the ascent from School Hut towards the peak. The nighttime start ensures firmer scree sections and enhances the chance of a clear summit attempt. It takes approximately 6 hours to reach Gilman’s point, followed by another 1.5 to 2 hours to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point. Descending the same route to Stella Point, then to Barafu camp for lunch, you continue descending to Mweka/Millennium camp for dinner and overnight (full board).

A final descent of 4,500 ft brings you to Mweka Gate, where your team will have prepared another delightful lunch, and transfer vehicles await. Bid farewell to your mountain staff before heading to a hotel near Arusha for a farewell dinner and either an overnight stay or a day room before departure.
