6 Days Shira Route

Proceeding from the Shira Plateau eastward up a ridge, passing the junction toward Kibo's peak, the route veers southeast toward Lava Tower, known as the “Shark’s Tooth.” After Lava Tower, the path descends to Barranco Camp, crucial for acclimatization despite ending at a similar elevation to the start.

Ascending the steep Barranco Wall after breakfast, the route leads to the Karanga Valley and the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail. Overnight stay at Karanga Camp.

We ascend further to reach Barafu Camp, marking the completion of the South Circuit, providing panoramic views of the summit. At this juncture, we set up camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and gear up for the summit day ahead. An overnight stay awaits us at Barafu Camp.

In the early hours, typically between midnight and 2 am, we embark on the challenging ascent towards the summit nestled between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. This segment is the most mentally and physically demanding part of the trek. Upon reaching Stella Point, a brief rest offers a chance to witness a breathtaking sunrise. The final ascent to Uhuru Peak may involve encountering snow. Once at the summit, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent, our descent begins, leading straight to Mweka Camp with a lunch stop at Barafu. We cherish our final evening on the mountain at Mweka Camp.

Following breakfast, we proceed with the descent towards the Mweka Park Gate to collect your summit certificates. From the gate, continue for approximately an hour to reach Mweka Village. A vehicle will be awaiting you there to transport you back to your hotel in Moshi, which is roughly a 30-minute drive away. It's time to indulge in a well-deserved hot shower, followed by a celebratory dinner.
